LAUGHTER MATTERS

The importance of play, humour and laughter for brain development

A conference keynote, an INSET day or a cheeky twilight? All sessions can be adapted to suit the audience, the themes that are important to your school and the length of time we've got.

No ‘matter’ what age you are, you learn best, remember more and make links between subjects when you’re enjoying yourself. So why is it that, as children become older, lessons tend to become more serious?

At Laughology, we know the answer. Teachers have told us they feel pressured to cover so much content, they don’t have time to plan any fun activities. What would Ofsted say if they saw pupils actually smiling in lessons?!

But failure to prioritise these things means lessons become a lot less motivating and a lot more ‘meh’.

So we’re here to help you understand the grey matter between your ears and inject some much-needed humour and laughter into your lessons.

Here’s what you can expect

  • A session with lots of learning, playfulness, humour and laughter
  • An understanding of the importance of play and gamification to make learning stick
  • A bit of neuroscience – understanding how laughter and humour positively impact the brain
  • How play contributes to the cognitive, physical, social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people

What you’ll get by the end

  • Ways to improve teaching and learning and raise academic standards with play, humour and laughter as learning tools
  • Ways to bring more playfulness into lessons
  • Ideas to encourage more laughter and humour in team meetings
  • Suggestions for supporting parents to have more fun with their children– even when there’s homework to be done!

Many, many thanks for your inspiring and uplifting presentation to our deputy heads yesterday; you gave a barnstorming performance that delivered the messages (learning) using your psychological principles and methodology, so I know they will never forget it!

They were buzzing as they left. So thank you for a really enjoyable and valuable day, and you even wove in magic tricks – respect!’
