YOUR AMAZING BRAIN

Helping your pupils understand fixed and growth mindsets and challenge any ‘wonky’ thoughts

The length and content of workshops can be adapted for children and young people in all Key Stages

Have you ever asked your pupils what they’re good at or find tricky, and why?

Maybe they’ve said they’re great at maths because they have a naturally good memory? Or they’re rubbish at maths because their mum is too?

Many children and young people believe their abilities and intelligence are static and outside of their control. This is fixed or ‘wonky’ thinking. Once pupils understand this isn’t the case, and their brain is like a muscle that can grow, they gain confidence and their ability to learn increases.

Research shows that, whether children adopt fixed or growth mindset thinking, it can make a huge difference to how they achieve, both in school and later in life.

So, to give your pupils the best possible chance, here’s how our workshop can help.

Here’s what you can expect

  • A lively, interactive and fun session
  • A bit of neuroscience (adapted to the age of the children) – understanding the brain and how it works
  • Fixed and growth mindset behaviours and language; it’s more than just saying ‘I can’t do it yet’
  • Memory techniques; developing memory muscle
  • Understanding how they learn and learning techniques, such as story-telling

What you’ll get by the end

  • Pupils who understand fixed and growth mindsets
  • Pupils who are able to spot any wonky thinking and limiting beliefs in themselves and others, and kindly challenge them
  • Children and young people who are more willing to take responsibility for their own learning; take on challenges, persist and develop
  • Pupils who are better able to give peer support and receive feedback in a growth mindset way

Both our English and Maths results were up by an amazing 20% on last year.

The school has never achieved results like this in its recent to mid history and whilst some of this improvement is down to the endeavours of the adults and our ambition for the children, no small part is down to the children believing in themselves, wanting to do well and knowing they can.

You guys contributed hugely to the children’s positive attitude, by teaching them that the power to achieve is all in their mind, they can learn to channel it, it’s not the preserve of a ‘clever’ few…they can all make it work for them and succeed. Which indeed they have!
