Laughology at the Festival of Education
One of the UK’s biggest and most exciting education events is the annual Festival of Education which takes place in Wellington College. With around 350 speakers, thousands of attendees, its aim is to provide invaluable CPD, conversations and networking to all.
This was the second year that Laughology attended, and word had spread because the room was packed full to the brim. Despite bringing in extra chairs, all standing room was taken, and windows thrown open to provide extra oxygen. This proved necessary for an energy-packed session with lots of wonderful contributions and, of course, laughs.
With Curtis Jewitt (our comms guru) as her glamorous assistant, Laura gave everyone a taste of Laughology’s ‘Science of Humour and Laughter to build resilience’ session. It included our FLIP-it Thinking model, which is a positive psychology toolkit enabling people to work towards building their resilience, whilst also helping them support themselves in moments of stress.
All activities are solution-focused and encourage the individual to use their imaginations to their advantage and consider what language is either helpful or unhelpful. Not forgetting laughter and humour too, of course, which aren’t just fun but can help us to view a situation from an objective, less emotional, perspective.
And in our packed-out room, on a Friday morning, the laughter was in abundance. As were the curly wurlys and squidgy people we were giving out as prizes!
