Stephanie Davies and Dave Keeling ignite inspiration at WELL Cumbria Conference

Laughology

Stephanie Davies – Laughology’s Head of Happiness, and Dave Keeling – Laughology’s Lead Happiness Consultant - set the stage for the WELL Cumbria Conference, captivating over 250 educators with their opening session.

With humour, activities and enthusiasm, they kicked of the day, helping set the scene and create an energy for learning. Following the kickoff session, Stephanie and Dave held breakout mini-workshops.

Stephanie's workshop, "Must Have a GSOH," dived into the power of humour and playfulness in learning. Through interactive exercises, she demonstrated how laughter can help with inclusive learning by helping young people explore concepts in a less confrontational way. The session explored concepts such as breaking the rules and mixing ideas to deliberately promote wrong answers and how this boosts learning through mental exploration as well as engagement, particularly among students who may feel hesitant to participate.

Meanwhile, Dave explored the impact of human connections in the classroom, using neuroscience and storytelling to share the importance of relational teaching. By emphasising connections over content, he showcased strategies to make learning memorable and meaningful.  As the day drew to a close, Stephanie and Dave reconvened to help everyone share what they had learnt and build on happiness in schools, leaving attendees inspired to put into practice their positive educational experiences for all. Their partnership with WELL promises exciting developments in educational excellence for West Cumbria.
