Spreading Happiness in Spanish Schools

Stephanie Davies, Laughology’s Head of Happiness, swapped the UK drizzle for Madrid sunshine this week, working with Holy Mary Catholic English School to inject a little laughter into learning. While the curriculum aligns with UK schools, Spanish teaching teams face different challenges—lower pay, fewer benefits, and less structured support. But one thing they do have? Sunshine. And excellent coffee.
The challenge? Teachers under pressure, juggling academic demands while keeping students engaged and resilient. The solution? A high-energy, interactive half-day session exploring how humour boosts learning, builds resilience, and helps students think differently. Delivered to both primary and secondary teams, the session equipped staff with practical strategies to create happier, more engaging classrooms.
It was a whirlwind visit with no time for padrón peppers, but Stephanie did manage to grab a fridge magnet and some Spanish sausage (chorizo)—for her husband. No euphemisms, Just spreading happiness.
