Improving communication with our Big Chats Little Chats programme at Uxbridge High School

Laughology

Uxbridge High School is a large school, with over 1300 students and over 100 members on their teaching and support team.  However, when you consider a large school, you automatically think of the teaching staff and don’t often consider the individuals that help keep the school running behind the scenes.

With this in mind, it was decided that people from IT, facilities management and the school office would receive support through Big Chats, Little Chats (BCLC), our training and mentoring programme.

One of the main objectives was to improve communication between people, a common issue for large schools, especially if there have been several leadership changes. Despite this, Uxbridge has continued to maintain a high level within the school, which was shown through their last OFSTED report, where they scored excellent.

The BCLC programme has challenged participants to become more self-aware and establish why and how they have unconsciously contributed to problems in the past. This was achieved by each person completing the Discovery Insights profile based on psychologist Carl Jung, where their individual strengths and weaknesses are highlighted.

To ensure each person understood how to apply this to their work life, Selina Brown delivered half a day of training, encouraging people to come out of their comfort zones by completing tasks that were listed as weaknesses.

In addition to each person setting a specific goal related to increase their strength and stretch their weakness, before we meet again in person, they’ll have accountability through smaller groups of their peers.

We can’t wait to hear how they got on!

If you’re interested in having BCLC in your school, get in touch with Doug and he can tell you more about it – and how we can create a bespoke programme for you. Email him – This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
