Unconscious Bias at Coleg Cambria
Happiness expert Selina Brown always has great fun delivering sessions at Coleg Cambria. Not only because the air is cleaner and she gets more oxygen to her brain, so she figures she gets smarter, but also because it’s interesting to see the different groups’ reactions to the same content.
The focus of the session was on the power of conversations, specifically when it comes to unconscious bias. During the session, Selina compared the scenario of uncomfortable conversations to catching a sexually transmitted disease (STD) - perhaps not what the team was expecting! But rest assured, this was not based on her personal experience but as a result of listening to relationship therapist Esther Perel on a podcast as she drove up to Wales.
During the episode, Esther helped a couple after the wife discovered her husband was cheating after she caught an STD. Stick with us - there is a link to the sessions, we promise!
The couple concluded that the main reason for the infidelity was that they never discussed the small stuff, so they definitely weren’t addressing any big issues that then mounted up. And it’s this incredibly important point that the Coleg Cambria team could learn about and reflect on as part of their sessions.
Overall, the training sessions were a success, and as far as we’re aware, no one caught an STD - phew!
