Helping Year 11 students reduce stress and anxiety at Abbots Hill School
Not even a tube strike could stop Lead Happiness Consultant Dave Keeling from hot-footing it to Abbots Hill School (an independent girls’ school) in Hemel Hempstead.
The 90-minute twilight session called ‘Don’t Sweat It’ was designed to help the forty Y11 students to explore tips, tricks, and techniques to reduce stress and anxiety in the build-up to their GCSEs.
The fast-paced session explored a variety of practical and thought-provoking ways, including:
- DOSE of happiness - how to make positive choices
- Fast/slow thinking – how to slow the brain down and think of more helpful behaviours
- Fartleking – don’t ask, just Google it!
- What is resilience? What can we do to build it?
- The amazing brain - and what gets in the way when we are stressed, anxious or fearful
- The four keys to memory - Structure, Emotional engagement, Imagination, and Review
- A little bit of magic
The session was interactive, with lots of laughs and the students left feeling motivated, happier and a lot less stressed.
