Unconscious bias training at St Mary’s Hampton

Apart from Local Authority induction sessions or training on their health and safety responsibilities, what opportunities are there for your school governors to develop in their role?

Once a year, the full Governing Body at St Mary’s Hampton CE Primary has a team session to help them reflect, challenge themselves, and ensure they’re doing their best job. This year, they had an evening of unconscious bias training with our educational consultant, lead Laughologist and former head teacher Sarah Creegan. We’re not biased – but how many job titles does one person need?

The governors gave some excellent examples of the work they’ve already done to challenge bias and, with Sarah’s knowledge and personal examples of the inner workings of schools, could explore what more could be done.

Along with the usual fun, laughter and ‘ology (the neuroscience), people said that they’d had a ‘great, enjoyable, informative and really thought-provoking time’.

But sorry, Sarah, we can’t possibly add ‘thought provoker’ to your already long list of credentials; that would be ridiculous.

If you’d like some unconscious bias training for your school governors - or any other type of training for that matter - get in touch with our Doug - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
